SPANISH player Carolina Marin won the Badminton World Championships in Jakarta on Sunday (August 16) for the second time after beating Indian player Saina Nehwal by 21-16 and 21-19.

The 22-year-old woman from Huelva, who won her first world title last year in Copenhagen, has entered an elite group of women with two world titles and become the only non-Asian woman in the group, rubbing shoulders with Li Linweng (1983 and 1989), Han Aiping (1985 and 1987) and Xie Xingfang (2005 and 2006).

Curiously the way the world rankings work means that the win has taken Marin to second place on the list while Nehwal remains in first place.

The Spanish player will have a chance to take over in three weeks time at the Super Series in Japan
