MARKET: Guardamar’s El Campico market has been operating for nearly two decades.

GUARDAMAR is to abide by the judgement of the Superior Tribunal of Justice (TSJ) and will close the El Campico market, rejecting appeals by market management.
The market has operated without a licence for nearly two decades and Mayor Jose Luis Saez (PSOE) said it will be closed, more than six months since the high court ruling against it: “There was already a decree closing the market with the previous government team. We are simply doing what we already had in place,” said Saez.
The mayor added that he had met with the manager of that market to inform him of the closing and is waiting on technical reports on how best to proceed to close the business which draws hundreds of people each weekend on the undeveloped land just off the CV-895, close to the natural park of La Mata.
Although managers are trying to negotiate with the Consell to legalise the activity, it is unlikely to avoid closure in the meantime.
