Nothing to report on Costa del Sol hospital extension

HOSPITAL visitors and passersby last week were surprised to see workers busy dismantling one of the cranes that has stood for four years over the skeleton of the Costa del Sol hospital extension.

Yet, in spite of speculation that this could mean either that work was about to start again at last or that the project had been ditched altogether, both Marbella council and the Junta de Andalucia regional government have said there is nothing to report.

Work to build the huge extension, desperately needed to improve hospital services on the Costa, ground to a halt four years ago due to administrative problems.

Although an agreement was signed by the construction company and the authorities more than a year ago and work was expected to begin again last January to allow the building to be in use by 2016, the site remains empty and nobody seems to know when things will happen.
