A ROMA camp situated near a police station in Roye, Northern France was the scene of a shoot-out between police and Roma resulting in at least three deaths on Tuesday afternoon (August 25).
Police were alerted to shots coming from the camp and when they arrived, they were fired upon. Reports indicate that amongst those killed were a man, a woman and a baby, although it appears that an officer who was shot also later died in hospital. In all, a further three people including another child have also been injured.
There is nothing to indicate that this has any association with terrorism but Bernard Cazeneuve, France’s Minister of the Interior, has flown to Roye to review the situation.
