GAS TECHNICIAN: Must be qualified.
NERJA’S foreign residents’ office wishes to alert all residents to the infamous gas-inspections fraud scheme, which seem to be spreading around Nerja and other Axarquia towns once again.
Here are the main guidelines to find out whether an inspection is false:
• A gas revision is compulsory every five years. The installation has to be inspected for safety reasons to avoid gas accidents. Only the official gas bottle supplier can tell residents the date when a gas revision is due, according to the gas supply contract. Contact Repsol (orange bottles), tel. for Nerja and the Axarquía area 952 406 904, or Cepsa (silver bottles), tel. for Nerja and Frigiliana area 952 521 593.
• Only a qualified gas technician Instalador de Gas, can make the gas revision. It is the resident who has to choose any technician or company to perform revision. A previous appointment can be arranged via phone. The technician has to display their Spanish ID, with the same information as the certificate given once the installation is completed.
• A normal gas revision costs from €50 to €63. It includes the changing of the rubber tubes, checking the safety of the installation and providing a certificate stating at the top ‘Certificado de Revision Periodica.’ If it proves unsafe, the gas technician will issue a report called Informe de Anomalias, specifying the modifications to be carried out.
Residents are advised to obtain information before making the gas revision, calmly and without rushing, never on the same moment that they knock on the door. This will help avoiding bad experiences.
