A 28-YEAR-OLD man from Nijar was arrested by Guardia Civil after allegedly running over a cyclist and fleeing the scene.
Authorities reported in a statement that the events took place around a fortnight ago at 7am, on a road known as Calvo de Campohermoso. After the detainee reportedly ran over the cyclist, he left the spot of the accident without aiding the victim or alerting medical services.
As a consequence of the accident, the victim – a 25-year-old man from Mali – sustained severe injuries and was hospitalised in the intensive care unit of the Torrecardenas hospital.
Thanks to an intense analysis of the scene by the authorities, they were able to extract enough data to find the characteristics of the vehicle which had caused the accident. After a week, a similar car was found parked in the street, showing a large number of damages which made authorities suspect it had something to do with the accident.
The detainee has been set free with charges and is awaiting trial.
