THE Axarquia region is well known for its vineyards, grapes and wines, and Moclinejo is to celebrate all those field workers who reinforce the region’s reputation every harvest season.

On September 13, Moclinejo will host a series of events to honour vineyard workers, starting with Mass at 11am enlivened by a traditional flamenco choir. At 12pm, there will be a parade across the town’s streets featuring the Nuestra Señora de Gracia municipal band, finishing at Plaza España. Renowned flamenco choir Aires de la Axarquia will perform at 1.30pm in Plaza España and at 3pm visitors will be able to enjoy a traditional paella dish. More events will follow and at 6.30pm there will be a tasting of ‘roscos de vino’ a typical sweet made with wine and dough.

In addition, there will be a crafts market from 11am to 7pm at Calle Portillo, and a re-enactment of the traditional grape stomping at 2.30pm in Calle Calvario.

The complete programme of activities can be found at https://www.axarquiacostadelsol.org/
