More news on British Airways engine fire at Las Vegas

FOLLOWING our story of yesterday September 9, on the British Airways engine fire at Las Vegas Airport, more information including some stunning footage of the fire has been released.

The aircraft was on the runway and had started its take off when the engine caught fire. Captain Chris Henkey aged 63 and with 42 years’ experience immediately performed an emergency stop on the runway and deployed the emergency slides to evacuate passengers and crew.

It appears, however, that two rear slides did not function correctly although it is not known whether this was caused by the fire in the engine.

Captain Henkey who was due to retire after one last flight to Barbados was taken to hospital suffering from the effects of smoke inhalation but his condition is not considered to be too serious. He has now announced that this was his final flight as pilot.
