FOLLOWING heavy rainfall on Monday, September 7, already confirmed as the wettest day of the year and the wettest September day since 1997, approximately €1.3 million are expected to be paid out for damage in Malaga Province.
An initial evaluation by the Insurance Compensation Consortium led the government-dependent group to predict 174 claims could come in, the majority for damage to homes or vehicles.
In fact within two days 68 people had placed claims with the consortium for damage caused by the heavy storm, which caused 12 flights to be diverted elsewhere as Malaga-Costa del Sol airport saw more than 54 litres of rainfall per square metre in just one hour.
In fact the airport and surrounding areas were the worst hit with the most damage reported in Guadalmar and Los Alamos, the consortium said.
