THE Clinico hospital in Malaga is using a new radiotherapy technique to treat lung cancer which is giving similar results to conventional surgery.

Used for cases diagnosed early in which tumours measure less than five centimetres and glands are unaffected, the technique means patients do not need operations and can be treated as outpatients.

The treatment, known as SBRT (stereotactic body radiation therapy), is given in between three and five sessions, the hospital explained, and has so far been used on more than 100 patients.
