A HUNTING dog kennels on the outskirts of Torremolinos has been raided and sealed off by the Seprona, the Guardia Civil’s nature protection branch, following complaints from an animal rights group.

Officers sent to the premises found more than 50 dogs crammed into tiny, airless cages, many permanently tied up on short chains and surrounded by urine and mess.

Pacma animal rights group had reported the premises, owned by a local businessman who reportedly rented cages to hunters, after repeated complaints to the council’s environmental department failed to achieve results.

Pacma also said that bodies of dogs had been found on nearby streets, and puppies, mostly podenco and galgo hunting dogs, had been found almost dead in rubbish bins.
