MIJAS has become one of the Costa del Sol’s must-see destinations for cruise passengers, with one in four making the trip to see the traditional white mountainside village when their ships stop off at Malaga Port.

Whereas in 2011 between 10 and 15 per cent of cruise passengers visited Mijas, Tourism councillor Santiago Martin reported, now a quarter of them do so, partly down to improved relationships with tour operators and partly down to the increased amount of attractions the village has to offer now.

The promotional strategy, Martin said, is now pinpointing the Asian and Scandinavian markets in an aim to maintain visitor numbers over the quieter months of the year.
