Fire brigade attending emergency
A HOUSE in Riddings, near Alfreton, Derbyshire, collapsed after an explosion and subsequent fire leaving a husband and wife dead on the morning of Sunday September 20.
The emergency services declared a “major incident” and East Midlands Ambulance Service sent its Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) to the house shortly after the alarm was raised at 7.30am.
David Lovett from Derbyshire Fire and Rescue said crews found the building “well alight” and “partially collapsed” when they arrived.
Neighbours were evacuated from their homes as a precaution and relatives of the couple have been informed whilst the authorities await a formal identification.
Police said they did not believe there were any suspicious circumstances but investigations were at an early stage.
