THE Gibraltar Alzheimer’s & Dementia Society hosted a conference at The Convent Ballroom on Monday September 21, which was World Alzheimer’s Day.
It focused on understanding and improving inclusion and quality of life for people living with Dementia, their rights and how to make Gibraltar a Dementia Friendly Community. Well known TV presenter and journalist Angela Rippon was the guest speaker.
She is a longtime supporter of the Alzheimer’s Society, becoming an Ambassador in 2009, following the death of her mother who was diagnosed with Dementia.
Earlier in the day the Government said it would have added more than 215 places for elderly residential and day care by the end of the year. It added that it would support healthcare professions by ensuring they had access to every new method of diagnosis and treatment that may be developed, in the shortest possible time.
Chief Minister Fabian Picardo said “The care we give our elderly is a demonstration of our humanity.”
