Communication promotes integration in Mijas

FOLLOWING the summer break, Mijas Town Hall’s Foreigners’ Department has announced that its highly popular language exchange workshops are up and running again.

The workshops, which have been running since 2012 and were attended by 300 people last season, are a great chance for Spanish and English-speaking people to get together for a chat and improve their conversational skills.

Meets are held at the municipal pensioners’ centres in Mijas Pueblo on Tuesday mornings, La Cala on Wednesday mornings and Las Lagunas on Thursday mornings.

“The idea is to break the ice and get people to talk and practise what they have learnt in their language classes. It is important for people to communicate, this promotes integration,” said Foreigners’ Department head Ana Skou.

The department, in collaboration with the Youth Department, has also announced it is looking for native British volunteers with teaching abilities to help young Spanish students with their reading and pronunciation in English in the afternoons.
