POLICE scientists have now confirmed that the body found near Astorga (Leon) on September 11 is that of American pilgrim, Denise Pikka Thiem, after receiving the results of a DNA test.
The DNA of the body was compared to that of relatives of the woman, who went missing while walking the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route alone in April.
Investigators found the victim’s body on property in Castrilloa de los Polvazares, Leon, after arresting a 39-year-old man, Miguel Angel Muñoz Blas, who has admitted to killing her.
