El Acebuche celebrates Dia de la Merced

PRISONERS, prison guards, dignitaries, politicians, representatives from the legal professions and social organisations recently filled the auditorium at El Acebuche prison.

They were there to celebrate the feast day of Our Lady of Mercy, the patroness of prisons and prisoners.

Miguel Angel de la Cruz, El Acebuche’s director, thanked all those present for the part they played in the celebration, from the prisoners themselves to all the administrations involved. He also defended the concept of “work, austerity, simplicity and the ability to share with others.”

De La Cruz drew attention to the increase in the number of prisoners enrolled in different education courses. This put El Acebuche amongst the front-runners in the prison service’s training programme in Spain, he said.
