Tourists spend more the Balearic Islands

FOREIGN tourists visiting the Balearic Islands in the first eight months of this year have spent €8.31 billion, 7.6 per cent more than the same period last year.

The average expenditure has been €953 per person, 4.4 per cent more, and the average daily expenditure 6.5 per cent more, according to the Tourist Expenditure Survey (Egatur) carried out by the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism.

The Balearic Islands has been the region where tourists have spent most money in August with €2.36 billion, 1.2 per cent more than in the same month last year and 25 per cent of the total spent in Spain.

The rise in August was mainly thanks to the higher number of arrivals as well as the higher expenditure per person. The markets which improved the most were those of British and Italian tourists.
