Possible solution to water shortages

In an effort to resolve the water shortage issue that became a major issue this summer for residents and businesses in the towns of Teulada-Moraira and Benitatxell, the mayors of Teulada, Carlos Linares, and El Poble Nou de Benitachell, along with members of the Water Consortium of Teulada and El Poble Nou de Benitatxell have met with Bruno Ballesteros, of the mining institute ICME, Jose Maria Cortes (SIDMAR) and Joel Braojos, a professional diver, to explore the possibility of conducting research into the hydrodynamic and hydro chemical behaviour of the waters that exit from an underground river at the Cova del Moraig, a small sea cave on the coast of Benitatxell.

At the meeting, Bruno Ballesteros launched a programme proposal for scientific research activities, including various stages of exploration, monitoring, data collection sensors and analysis of results.

The possibility of sealing the entrance to the cave was looked into and the team have analyzed the Salinisation of the water flow at the cave entrance to check the viability of the plan.

The Mayor of Teulada-Moraira, Carlos Linares, says; “it is a priority for our city council and the Water Consortium to work tirelessly in the pursuit of securing our own water resources to ensure a quality supply to our residents and these studies of the Cova del Moraig are an example of our willingness to pursue and explore all possible means to secure those resourses.”
