AN ELDERLY woman who stabbed her daughter-in-law last October because she thought she was poisoning her and her son has been sentenced to four years in a prison psychiatric facility.
Although a Malaga Provincial Court judge took into account the fact that doctors reported she had serious mental issues which led her to believe she and her son were being poisoned, she was given the sentence and also banned from approaching her victim or her two grandchildren, aged six and two, for five years.
The 72-year-old woman stabbed her daughter-in-law, aged 37, in the back while they were making lunch and told the court that she had done so but didn’t mean to kill her. Yet doctors reported that the wound, made with an 11cm knife, could have been fatal if it had hit internal organs.
