SEIZE the day – ‘Carpe Diem’ – and that is exactly what the owner of Immo Carpe Diem did in setting up this real estate company more than 10 years ago in Torrevieja.

For Belgian-born Lieven Pannecouque, the name was a natural choice for him and a mantra he believes in. He has so far lived a fascinating life; he was a captain in the Military Police in Belgium where he was shot by a sniper and also acted as a bodyguard for Margaret Thatcher during a visit to Brussels in the 1980s. He is a trained and qualified accountant, lawyer, and translator and has a teaching diploma in French and History.

Lieven came to Spain 11 years ago as the milder climate improved his health, and after working for another real estate company he was encouraged to set up on his own and Immo Carpe Diem was born. Over the years he has welcomed more than 500 buyers and some of them have since sold and brought another property with Immo Carpe Diem.

The family-run business also has offices in Belgium, truly serving international clients, offering the trustworthy, reliable service you would expect when buying a property on the Costa Blanca. Lieven uses his legal expertise to be able to offer a full service to customers, guiding them through the necessary paperwork from getting an NIE number, to notary services and even changing over the names on utility bills. With this comprehensive service carried out in house, fees are substantially lower than most others.

With Lieven’s background in the Military Police, he prides himself on transparency and legitimacy that has led Immo Carpe Diem to becoming one of the most well-reputed property businesses in the area. Equally, Lieven is just as selective in working with any other agents and builders on new builds: “There are hundreds of estate agents in Torrevieja but I work with just five of them that I trust and are reputable. In Belgium you have to train for three years to become an estate agent so we try and use those strict regulations here.” He added: “I also like dealing in new builds now as there are greater controls and regulations surrounding them now so the quality is much better.”
