Cabrera Lawn Bowling Club

CABRERA Lawn Bowling Club started its life partway up the mountainside of the Sierra Cabrera.

The first foundations were in place in 1982/83 and the bowls greens were ready by 1984, with the club being formally registered in 1986, when it became affiliated to the Spanish National Federation of Bowls. Many happy years were spent there but in 2000 it was time for a change and the club moved to where it is now; Al Andalus Gardens on the outskirts of Turre. The building work had to start all over again with the first green and clubhouse being built in 2001 followed by the second green in 2002.

We are the only grass green bowling club in the south of Spain. We pride ourselves as being one of the best bowling clubs in the area as we not only bowl competitively but socially too. Some of our bowlers come to club mornings to meet friends, get gentle exercise and play a sport that they enjoy. Other members like to be a bit more competitive and use club mornings as practice sessions for competitions they may have entered.

Visitors are made most welcome at Cabrera and if you want to come and give it a go, we have fully qualified coaches who will guide you through the basics of the game. Shoes and bowls can be hired at the club but once you have been bitten by the bug, you may want your own bowls etc. It is not necessary to buy brand new and lots of bowlers buy secondhand as it may take a few years to get the perfect bowls for you.

As well as our two fantastic bowling greens, against the back drop of the stunning Sierra Cabrera, we also have one of the best club houses in the area where we pride ourselves on not only our bowling but also on having a great social life.

We have BBQs on a regular basis and our social committee also organise fun days and trips. For example, an annual trip to Benidorm in February where we have a great time and also bowl against other clubs in the area. The annual dinner dance is also one of the highlights of our year.

After bowling, why not stay behind and have a nice drink, either in the fullyequipped clubhouse or on the covered terraces overlooking the beautiful mountains? We pride ourselves on being a very friendly and welcoming club so why not give us a try? Our club mornings are Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, 10am for a 10.30am start.

We have a wide range of experience so don’t be put off as some members have only been bowling for 12 months and wish they had taken it up earlier whilst other members have been bowling for 30 years. However, all our members are only too willing to pass on their advice and encouragement.
