Francina Armengol made the announcement.
THE Balearic Islands Regional Government will spend €580,000 this year on the islands’ schools to help poorer students.
This week, head of the government, Francina Armengol, presented an initiative called the ‘Social Emergency Fund’, which has been designed to help families in need with aid to pay for school meals for their children or to participate in after-school activities, as well as buying school supplies.
“This initiative has been launched to look for solutions for those people who are in a situation of great necessity, especially those children whose families cannot afford proper food,” said the president, who explained that the money had been diverted from less important allocations.
