1966 INCIDENT: Another Palomares bomb found at sea.
A SOLUTION for Palomares could be announced on Monday when the US Secretary of State John Kerry visits Madrid. Around 50,000 cubic metres of soil was contaminated after two US aircraft collided over the area in 1966, releasing four thermonuclear bombs.
After years of negotiations between Washington and Madrid, sources say that the US government has agreed to ship the contaminated soil to the Nevada National Security Site. The entire operation is expected to take two years and its cost is expected to be shared by Spain and the US.
