Landslide by Rock Hotel
HEAVY overnight rain on October 20 has caused a great deal of disruption in Gibraltar with a number of roads blocked or flooded and bus routes disrupted.
The most dramatic event occurred at about 1am when a landslide close to the Rock Hotel blocked both sides of Europa road with concrete, trees and rocks. The Fire and Rescue service has recommended that access be restricted in case of further falls. It is anticipated that the road will remain closed for at least one week.
Although this is one of the main routes to Europa Point, there is a lower road, which cars and buses can take.
There was a further minor rock fall in the area of Camp Bay, which resulted in a closure that should last no more than 24 hours according to the Royal Gibraltar Police. There was also an accident on Queensway between a car and motorbike, which left one person in hospital.
Many roads were flooded and a number of buses have had to be diverted.
