The 21 bales recovered
THE Royal Gibraltar Police has announced that on the morning of October 22, officers of the marine section detected five suspect vessels off the eastern seaboard.
The RGP crew managed to intercept one of the suspect vessels, seen to be a Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat, about two and half nautical miles east of Eastern Beach which failed to stop and carried out a series of evasive manoeuvres.
During the pursuit, those aboard the suspect boat jettisoned a number of bales and the chase was called off once the suspect vessel left Gibraltar waters.
A total of 21 bales suspected to contain cannabis resin were seized by officers following a search of the area. Each bale weighs approximately 30kg and total street value is estimated to be in the region of £3 million (€4 million).
