THREE hundred and six homes in Velez-Malaga are to benefit from rehab work currently being carried out by the regional government to improve communal areas of the buildings.

The work was ordered by the Andalucian Housing and Rehabilitation Department and includes roof repairs, improvements to lighting, expansion gaps, drainage and carpentry, repairs and painting tasks, Junta de Andalucia regional government delegate Jose Luis Ruiz Espejo explained during a recent visit to the area.

Altogether the work, which started in September and should be finished before the end of the year, has a €268,462 budget taken from Junta and Feder funds and will benefit 100 homes on Calle Primavera-Verano, 104 homes in Pueblo Nuevo and 102 on Cuesta del Visillo in Torre del Mar.

Not only does the project serve to improve residential areas, Ruiz Espejo explained, it also serves to help maintain jobs in the construction sector, one of the worst affected by the recession.
