Calvia mayor pleased with meetings’ outcome

THE Mayor of Calvia, Alfonso Rodriguez, said he was very pleased with the outcome of meetings held in London with professionals from the tourism sector.

He was accompanied to London by the local councillor for Tourism, Antonio Garcia; the Director General for Tourism, Jaime Nadal, and the Director General for Strategic Projects, Juan Mesquida. The meetings, he said, gave him the chance to explain first hand the results of the tourism season in the town, and especially in the Palmanova-Magaluf area, which are a direct consequence of actions carried out by the private and public sectors to improve the area as a tourist destination. Rodriguez spoke of investments which are being made in the town and what is being done to offer new improved products to prolong the tourism season. He has invited the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) to visit the area and find out for themselves so they can report their experience to British tour operators. The mayor said in meetings with press representatives from The Sun, The Telegraph and the Travel Weekly, amongst others, that Calvia was heading towards quality tourism. He thanked the Director of the Spanish Tourism Office in London, Enrique Ruiz, for organising the meetings which allowed him to promote Calvia as a destination for young families.
