Official weather alert map for Sunday November 1
SOUTHERN Spain is once again battening down the hatches for another wet and windy long weekend.
As of Saturday afternoon (October 31) yellow alerts are in place for much of the Costa del Sol for heavy rain, due to start as of 6pm.
The worst of the storm is expected to hit the coast on Sunday, with orange alerts (important risk) issued by the Aemet State Weather Agency for the Costa del Sol and Guadalhorce areas. Rainfall of up to 32 litres per square metre per hour is expected- similar amounts to those registered recently when the area around Malaga airport suffered flooding.
By Monday (a bank holiday in some parts of Spain) rain is expected to start to wear off, yet the storm is likely to be present on the southern coast until Tuesday.
Mijas fire brigade has issued reminders to the public to secure loose items on balconies and roofs, stay away from areas known to flood and remember the number to call in an emergency is 112.
