A MAN is facing six years in prison for brutally attacking another with a blunt instrument in Palma.

The two men were in an abandoned building when one of them reprimanded the other for stealing copper and other metal items. The 31-year-old said nothing, but approached him and began bludgeoning him, fracturing his jaw in several places.

The victim, 41, fell to the floor, and the accused allegedly continued to kick him in the head until he was unconscious. Another man stepped in to prevent any further attack. The victim required emergency surgery and was in hospital for six days. He had to convalesce for 81 days and was unable to go about his daily business for 45 of them.

The attack has left him with serious effects, including a large scar. If found guilty, the accused may be given a 15-year restraining order and be sentenced to pay €19,855 in compensation.
