The department of tourism in Calpe headed by Councillor Jan Van Parijs is promoting the Mediterranean touristic destination at the World Travel Market exhibition.

Mayor Cesar Sanchez is also in attendance at the fair. The town has set its sights on strengthening ties with British tour operators in an effort to include Calpe in their product portfolios, to ensure it is well marketed as a popular tourist destination for British holidaymakers, after the excellent tourist figures released for 2015 showed an increase in tourist figures from the UK and improved expenditure.

The exhibition is also useful for gaining an insight into the forthcoming tourist season 2016, providing indicators regarding the tourist market in the UK, and analysing competition from other beach destinations as well as identifying new tourism trends. Ninety per cent of British tourists visiting the Costa Blanca chose the Valencian Community and the town intends on capitalising on this fact through expanding its offer and effectively marketing and promoting the town, especially the cuisine, as one of its core values and attractions.
