IN a stunt for a TV show Sáenz de Santamaría, Spain´s Deputy PM, had an unexpected early landing after a hot air balloon she had just taken off in lost control and had to make an emergency landing.

The Deputy Prime Minister was taping the stunt for Spanish TV show Planeta Calleja, which is presented by the well known adventurer Jesus Calleja, in Leon after the show challenged her to set out on a portion of the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage in a hot air balloon.

Calleja recognised that the balloon wasn´t making its height and was heard shouting, “We’ve lost control! We’ve lost control!” from the basket of the craft.

Calleja, who has climbed the world’s seven highest peaks, requested emergency services assistance and then made an emergency landing.

Speaking after the landing, he said that that the Deputy Prime Minister had “navigated better than me” during the incident.

Calleja said that the weather conditions had made controlling the balloon impossible.
