THIS Christmas there will be no nativity scene in the central patio at Rincon del Victoria Town Hall as was set up in 2013 and 2014 by the Rociera Marenga assocations.

The council has decided to get rid of the scene from the public area claiming that as it is an administrative building, “the non-religious vision of the State should be followed,” according to Culture Councillor Alina Caravaca. The mayor, Encarnacion Anaya said:“The town hall is not the right place to display a Christian scene about the birth of Jesus Christ.”

She argued that the municipal nativity scene isn’t all that traditional as there have been other years when the town didn’t have one, but stressed that associations and senior citizen homes that wish to set up their own at their headquarters are welcome to do so. The Culture Councillor said discussions are under way as to whether to use the scene pieces owned by the town at another municipal building.
