Blood donations at Malaga university

GIVE BLOOD: Students and staff encouraged to donate.

MALAGA’s Provincial Blood Transfusion Centre is carrying out its annual campaign, aimed at getting university students and staff to give blood this month.

The campaign started last Monday (November 9) and will run until December 3. Mobile units from the centre will be stopping off at the city’s 10 faculties to enable students, teachers and staff to donate.

During last year’s campaign a total of 2,261 people gave blood, a figure the centre hopes to beat this year. Those who donated have already been informed via email and text message of when the units will be visiting their faculty, and information campaigns are running on both Teatinos and El Ejido campuses to encourage newcomers to join in.

Those wanting to give blood must be over the age of 18, weigh at least 50 kilos and be in general good health.

The centre also has mobile units which travel all over the province during the year (schedules can be seen on www.donantesmalaga. org) and its premises in Malaga City are open for donations Monday to Friday from 9am to 3pm and Saturday from 9am to 2pm.

People who come from or have lived abroad are advised to check in advance whether they are able to give blood as some conditions apply to those who have lived in other countries during certain periods.
