England captain Wayne Rooney amazed by camp location La Nucia

England captain, Wayne Rooney, and manager, Roy Hodgson have praised their training camp location and facilities at La Nucia, Alicante as very positive and complete facilities in perfect condition, something that surprised them.

The team chose La Nucia’s award winning Ciutat Esportiva Camilo Cano, the European town of Sport, to prepare for their friendly game against Spain, which took place on Friday November 13, and was played at Alicante’s Jose Rico Perez stadium.

Hodgson stated “I think it’s a great advantage for a small town like
La Nucia to have facilities that offer so many sporting possibilities for the local people, and not just for football, but also other sports. We have been well looked after. The mayor has made us feel very comfortable in La Nucia. The pitch was in perfect condition, so much so that we could not have found a better place to conduct such an important training session before the match against Spain.”

On a possible return to La Nucia, Roy Hodgson said it was difficult to say. Players may return with their clubs, for instance in the winter breaks, whenever they want. Furthermore, if the England team were to play at Alicante again they would select La Nucia as their preference to train.

Rooney added that he was very impressed with the quality of the facilities. In his own words “It was really fantastic. The pitch and grass were in optimum condition for training and the facilities were amazing. We felt very comfortable and really enjoyed it. One of the things that impressed me, were the smaller football fields for the younger players. I think it is great and it’s really been a pleasure to be here.”
