Javea promotes scuba diving for tourists

YEAR ROUND: The town also hopes to promote other water activities.

THE department of tourism in Javea is determined to promote the activity of scuba diving and gain a significant foothold in diving tourism.

Known for its landscape and iconic mountain the Montgo, there are just as spectacular landscapes not visible, since they are beneath the surface of the water, and it is this that the town hall wants to make more people aware of. Mayor Jose Chulvi has requested the support of the regional Valencian Tourist Agency to position Javea as a destination for diving, claiming the richness of the seabed can become a major power in the tourism sector.

Some of the most spectacular underwater areas are positioned close to the most rugged areas of coastline, such as the Cabo de San Antonio, Portitxol and La Granadella including the Cabo de la Nao.

Within the town there are at present seven Scuba Diving Clubs that wish to promote a number of specific diving routes, in particular out of the main summer season since the waters are actually murkier during summer, helping to break the tourist seasonality and bring tourism year round.  The town also hopes to capitalise on other water sports activities.
