THIS year Torremolinos has decided to swap controversial Christmas hampers for families in need for charity events, Social Welfare Councillor Jesus Diaz has announced.
The Torremolinos Grand Toy and Food Collection campaign includes 15 events to channel local residents’ solidarity and ensure no children are left without toys or families without a meal on the table while saving the €135,000 spent on hampers last year to provide families in need with more help.
Various activities are planned for December including sports events, charity teas, horse shows, concerts and races among others and those who take part will be invited to donate toys or food which will be handed over to local charities and associations for distribution.
