So this is Christmas, and it’s time for a special message to our readers and advertisers, the sleighs and jingle bells of our flourishing community here in Spain!
You’ve made us feel part of a family, part of something greater than ourselves, and that’s what Christmas should be all about. Families are there to inspire, through the good times and the bad, and when you share Christmas with somebody, they become your family.
We’ve had the pleasure of knowing some of the finest, most inspirational men and women on the Costa del Sol and beyond for nearly 20 years. People from all walks of life, from England, Scotland, Ireland, Lapland, Wales, Spain, from across Europe, and far-flung corners of the world. Adventurers, pioneers, workers, retirees, all pillars of the community, and heroes to their friends, neighbours and colleagues.
It’s not easy forging a new life in a different country, and it can be especially difficult over Christmas. We know that, which is why the Euro Weekly News will always strive to be there for our readers and advertisers, to follow your example of strength against the odds, of families born not of blood but of a deep love of our fellow human beings.
Christmas is a time to show our gratitude to those who have been there for us, through thick and thin, and to repay that kindness, that love, by doing the same for the people around us. There will be those among you who will be having a tough time of it this year, through loss, bereavement, loneliness and pain, and if this local newspaper could have one Christmas wish, it would be that our readers keep supporting each another, the way you have supported us all these years.
Let’s bring Christmas back to its roots. If together, we can bring a little seasonal cheer to just one person, show them that they’re not alone, well then we can show that there’s always something and someone worth fighting for.
And that’s what we are in this community; we are fighters, not for ourselves, but for the peace, harmony and love we’ve worked so hard to bring to these shores.
From each and every one of us at the EWN family – Feliz Navidad!
So this is Christmas, On the Costa del Sol, Let’s enjoy the sunshine, And smash down that wall.
