A NATIONAL POLICE officer stationed in the Salamanca district of Madrid was viciously attacked by the driver of a suspicious vehicle which was stopped on the M-45 highway bypass, according to reports from the Federal Police Union and ABC.
The aggressive driver is said to have lashed out at the two officers as they approached the car to ask for identification, issuing kicks and punches before lunging at one officer with a ten- centimeter blade and attempting to stab him in the chest three times.
Thanks to a bulletproof vest worn by the officer, he survived the potentially fatal blows.
Reports claim that the assailant was then subdued and arrested, after which officers found a second similar weapon on his person.
