NATIONAL POLICE officers have swooped on a criminal organisation operating in the area between Madrid and Valencia, resulting in nine arrests.
Following an investigation that began in November 2015 and developed in several phases, one member of the gang was found with 225 grams of cocaine concealed in the tailgate of their vehicle, while distributing the drug in and around Elche, a city in the province of Alicante.
Officers then searched three homes in Madrid and Elche and seized a vehicle, several phones, a set of precision scales and other instruments used in drug trafficking.
During this phase of the operation, a further eight arrests were made including that of the gang´s leader, who was apprehended in possession of 100 grams of cocaine.
Among the nine arrested were two fugitives sought by the Commissioner General of the Judicial Police in Madrid. Both had evaded existing 9 and 12 year prison sentences respectively.
On January 19, the accused were brought before the Court of Instruction (Number Five) in Elche and the Magistrate´s Court in Madrid. At least six of the detainees face imprisonment.
