MALAGA Airport has been given the title of Spain’s third busiest airport for low cost airlines throughout 2015, handling more than four million budget passengers.
Latest figures form the Institute for Tourism Studies; show us that the low cost airlines transported some 4,127,301 passengers via Malaga last year, (11.7 per cent of the national total) which equates to a 2.7 per cent increase on 2014.
However, if we also include the flights of traditional companies in this equation, (2,028,041) the total figure of passengers using the airport was 6,155.342, which then places Malaga in sixth position nationally, beaten only by: Madrid Barajas, Palma de Mallorca, Barcelona, Gran Canaria, and Tenerife Sur.
Andalucia
In 2015, the low cost airlines transported a total of 5,076,959 passengers to a final destination within Andalucia, which shows an increase of 3.4 per cent form 2014, but the surprising fact is that more people were encouraged to use conventional carriers; who saw a huge increase of 11.2 per cent year on year transporting 2,405,333 passengers to the region.
