XIMO PUIG, Valencia’s regional president, pledged to help Denia fulfil its potential as a municipality.

The promise was made as Puig paid his first official visit to Denia town hall where he was received by the local mayor Vicent Grimalt and councillors.

“Denia is a symbol of our country, of our way of understanding hospitality and making tourism a driving force for the economy and employment,” Puig wrote in the Visitors’ Book.

The Generalitat president also referred to Denia’s recent designation as a Unesco Creative Gastronomic municipality, which he said contributed towards improving the collective reputation “of all Valencians.”

The regional government would do everything possible to cooperate, share and work together on the Unesco project which benefits the entire Valencian Community.

Puig was also committed to ensuring that the area had adequate infrastructure, citing the Tren de la Costa rail link along the coast as a regional government priority. He also announced that more than half of the Agencia Valenciana de Turismo’s €38 million budget – 20 per cent more than 2015’s – was destined for Alicante province.
