MALAGA’S yearly carnival celebrations will draw to a close on February 7, but not before the election of the best drag artist in the city.

Thirteen participants will compete in the contest, which takes place in the Plaza de la Constitucion at 21.30 on February 6.

Each drag queen will be expected to put on a spectacular performance, and will be judged on their use of music and dance.

A draw recently held at the Malaga Carnival Foundation’s headquarters, revealed that performances by Flaminga Rose, Might and Shayla 007 will kick off the glamorous proceedings.

The following and final day of the colourful event will see a parade travel from Esperanza Bridge to Malagueta beach with a giant cardboard “boqueron” (anchovy). To mark the beginning of the moral and dietary restrictions imposed for Lent, the fish is burned on the sands.

The closing event will begin at 4pm, on February 7, with the procession leaving from Marques de Larios roundabout at the end of Alameda Principal.
