REPORTS from February 8 confirm that Thailand´s police have made an arrest in connection with the murder of Spanish businessman David Bernat, whose body parts were found in Bangkok´s Chao Phraya River on January 30.
Last week, after naming Artur Segarra, also Spanish, as a chief suspect in the case, police claimed his recent withdrawal of cash within Thailand pointed to his remaining in the country; however reports suggest that he has was arrested in Sihanoukville in southwest Cambodia, on February 7.
Referring to Mr Segarra´s arrest at a restaurant in the city, a Cambodian police chief called Chuon Narin told reporters “This morning I will send him to the immigration department so that we can hand him over to the Thai authorities”.
A Thai woman has also been questioned in connection with Mr Bernat´s murder. She is alleged to have been seen with the suspect, Mr Segarra, in the last few days.
Murder investigators claim that more than $1 million has been syphoned from Mr Bernat´s bank account since his death.
