Battle in the kitchen in La Nucia

MEMBERS of the La Nucia’s retirement centre La Casilla (The Box) took on a team of young bakers from the Youth Centre in a baking competition, and won! The two facilities are close to each other and have been working together, promoting the exchange of experiences and knowledge.

Micaela Gorrochano’s carrot cake was the winner of the Intergenerational Homemade Desserts Competition, which was organised by the Department of Youth and Senior Citizens of La Nucia, and developed at the retirement centre. 

The jury, Francisco Lazaro (retired hotel chef), Guillermo Carpallo (show cook) and Leticia Lopez (housewife), did a blind tasting of all eight desserts. They selected four finalists based on flavour and texture. They then examined the four finalists’ desserts and after much deliberation, voted the carrot cake the winner.
