Launch of basketball initiative.
FOR THE second year, the old town of Marbella will be transformed into a giant basketball court thanks to a combination of the Basketball Club Marbella, the Association of Merchants and the Debra charity with the agreement of the Ayuntamiento.
This was announced on the morning of February 9 by the participating organisations and the Marbella councillor for commerce Ana Isabel Gonzalez who said it “is a very interesting proposal because all the families of Marbella will be able to enjoy a fun and sports day in such an emblematic setting as the Casco Antiguo, thereby promoting commercial regeneration”.
Representative of the merchants, Carola Herrero, said, “The shops in the area will offer some discounted prices on the days of the events and restaurants will offer special menus”.
A representative of the basketball club confirmed that it had more than 300 children regularly playing and any who wish to take part may register in advance on the club website. The program will commence on March 12, running on one Saturday each month on April 9, May 7 and finishing on 4 June.
The initiative also has a caring side and each Saturday the participants will respectively donate €1 to the Debra Butterfly Children which is the adopted charity of the merchants association.
