Some of the stolen watches.
A young man is accused of entering his uncle’s home using a stolen key and stealing watches worth €80,000, reports from February 16 confirm.
The National Police investigated a complaint made by a Marbella resident, who claimed that he had been burgled and his watch collection, which consisted of 29 watches of different brands and models, had been stolen.
According to Malaga’s Provincial Commissioner, inquiries were initiated in late January 2016, when officers went to the allegedly burgled home but could find no physical evidence of a break-in.
They later received information about a person who was trying to sell several watches in an Estepona jewellery store, and were apparently able to trace this activity back to a nephew of the complainant.
Sources suggest that the uncle maintains that keys were never given to the nephew and believes they were taken without his knowledge, at an earlier time.
The accused, aged 20, has since been arrested pending burglary charges.
