United States Congressional Delegation visits Gibraltar

The Chief Minister welcomes the Congressional Delegation

ORGANISED under the Mutual Educational and Cultural Exchange Act programme by the United Kingdom in coordination with the Government of Gibraltar a delegation from the Congress of the United States of America visited Gibraltar on February 17 and 18.

Congressman George Holding and Congresswoman Lois Frankel were initially met by Chief Minister Fabian Picardo who gave them a background to Gibraltar and its economy and they then went on to be greeted by Deputy Chief Minister Dr Joseph Garcia who briefed them on the political, constitutional and historical development of Gibraltar.

The delegates next met with the Board of the American Chamber of Commerce in Gibraltar AMCHAM and were later formally welcomed by the Chief Minister during a reception at Grand Battery House.

Following the welcome, they accompanied the Deputy Chief Minister in the laying of wreaths at the American War Memorial.

Their ‘whistle stop’ tour also included a visit to the University of Gibraltar and other briefings on the following day.
