THE MINISTER for Culture of Gibraltar in a press release issued on March 3 said that he would like to publicly congratulate Gibraltarian conductor Karel Chichon OBE who was born in London of Gibraltarian parents on his debut at one of the world’s most prestigious opera houses, the Metropolitan Opera House in New York, where he is currently conducting Puccini’s Madama Butterfly.
He has been Chief Conductor of the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken Kaiserslautern since 2011, performs regularly around the world and releases cds on the well- known Deutsche Grammophone label.
Minister for Culture, the Hon Steven Linares, said: “I am delighted to hear of Karel’s latest achievement and his continuous success. He is truly an outstanding example of the vast local talent we have in our little Gibraltar. A great Gibraltarian export and ambassador. Well done”.
