ENGLISH SETTER: Two dogs were poisoned in Campanet.
THE NATURE PROTECTION SERVICE (SEPRONA) of the Guardia Civil is investigating the poisoning of dogs in a country house on the outskirts of Campanet, Mallorca.
The owner of the animals, Damia Gual, filed a complaint with the Guardia Civil after finding one of his dogs dead and another very ill. He also found pieces of ‘sobrasada’ (Mallorcan sausage) containing poison spread around the property.
Gual, who is the secretary of the society of hunters of Campanet and well known in the area, explained that he had five English setters on the property. After finding one dead and another very ill, he rushed the sick animal to the vet who confirmed that the animal showed clear signs of poisoning by pesticides, insecticides and herbicides.
Mr Gual explained that his dogs are very special to him and what has happened to the animals is very painful. He confirmed that his other dogs are fine and had not eaten any of the poisoned food. Gual also commented that he found it strange that recently a German shepherd was found dead two houses away from his land and a month earlier another dog had been stolen.
